Environmental Legislation. For a sustainable development of the territory

The text was written on the occasion of the first Master’s Degree in Environmental Legislation of the IMU – International Multimedia University, an entity created by Enel, Rai, the Region of Umbria, Sviluppo Umbria, the municipality of Gualdo Tadino and the Cassa di Risparmio di Perugia. The work highlighted the relationship between environment, territory and agriculture. The latter is the only activity that, if exercised in certain ways, guarantees the protection, conservation but above all the harmonious development of natural habitats, since environmental compatibility does not apply to it as an external element, hetero-imposed constraint or limitation of movement, but an intrinsic mode of being of the development itself. The basic conditions for sustainable development are the renunciation of overexploitation of non-renewable natural resources, the protection of biodiversity, the halting of human processes that lead to desertification, the preservation of landscapes and habitats, and the ecological orientation of food products.
